Darren Bent has claimed that Norwich City right-back Max Aarons would be a ‘great’ signing for his old Tottenham this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs striker revealed that he is a massive fan of the 20-year-old defender, who he believes would be an ideal fit for Jose Mourinho’s struggling side.

The north London outfit were keen on a move for Aarons during the January transfer window, with Mourinho looking to upgrade both full-back positions, but the Canaries did not want to sell why they still had an outside chance of avoiding relegation.

However, talks are expected to open once the suspended campaign comes to an end, with Tottenham said to keen to move on from the wildly inconsistent play of Serge Aurier.

And Bent has wholeheartedly backed the potential swoop.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I really like him, Max Aarons. I really, really like him.

“I watched him a lot in the Championship, and he’s taken a major step up to the Premier League and done very, very well. If Norwich do go down, which looks like it might happen, I think he’ll be out the door.

“I think he’d be a great signing for Spurs. They struggled, in some respects, to replace Kyle Walker. They’ve got Serge Aurier but he’s really struggled at times. They’ve been had to play Moussa Sissoko back there.

“So for me, I think he’d be a good signing.

“We know what Spurs are like, and it really follows that trend of signing young, English players. It’s been happening for years, and for me it sounds right.”

Aarons, who was born in London, has been a regular for a Canaries’ side that has struggled to come to terms with the quality of the Premier League, making 30 appearances in all competitions.

But he is not the only right-back linked with a move to Spurs this summer, with Mourinho also said to be chasing PSG star Thomas Meunier, who could be available on a free transfer when the season finally comes to an end. Read more here…
