Karim Benzeman TEAMtalk

Karim Benzema launched an extraordinary attack on his Real Madrid team-mate Vinicius Junior at half-time in Tuesday’s Champions League draw at Borussia Monchengladbach.

As the Real players gathered in the tunnel before returning to the pitch at the break Benzema was seen talking to Ferland Mendy.

The incident was filmed by Telefoot, with Marca claiming Benzema was telling France team-mate Mendy not to pass to Vinicius Junior.

The Real Madrid striker did not mention the Brazilian by name, but Football Espana says “the body language, tone of the comments and manner in which they were said means that was not necessary”.

Benzema covered his mouth with his hand, whilst his comments were in ear-shot of Thibaut Courtois with Vinicius Junior just metres away.

Benzema told Mendy, as per Marca: “He (Vinicius) does what he wants. Brother, don’t play with him…oh my God. He is playing against us.”

Benzema, Mendy and Vinicius were then seen talking and gesturing movements on the field before the second half began.

Those comments were not picked up by microphones.

Data from the second half in Germany showed Mendy passed the ball to Vinicius three times. Vinicius also passing back to the full-back three times.

No Modric return to Spurs

Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric says he is “too old” to follow in Gareth Bale’s footsteps by securing a return to Tottenham.

Bale, 31, left Madrid earlier this year to return to north London after seven years in the Spanish capital.

The Welshman has showed impressive form since returning from injury. Indeed, he played a crucial role in helping Spurs beat LASK in the Europa League last week.

Back in 2012, it was Modric who first made his move to Madrid, with Bale joining him a year later.

However, speaking to FourFourTwo, the Croatian insisted that the time has now passed for him to follow Bale. Instead, he promised to finish his time with Los Blancos on a high before finding another club.

“I’m too old to go back to Tottenham,” the 35-year-old said.
