Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva says that the club want to “keep winning” ahead of Saturday’s derby with Manchester United.
City rounded off their Champions League group stage campaign with a 3-0 win over Marseille on Tuesday. The victory took Pep Guardiola‘s men to 16 points in Group C, a club record in Europe’s elite competition.
What’s more, the clean sheet is City’s fourth in a row following shutouts against Olympiacos, Burnley, Porto and Fulham.
Speaking to BT Sport after their latest win, Portugal international Silva hailed his side for finishing top of the group.
“It was a good game,” the midfielder said (via BBC Sport). “We knew we have already got first spot in group and we are already qualified but it’s always very good to finish the group stage with a good win, 3-0 at home.
“Onto the next one. It’s a good start for us – we know it’s not enough but it’s a very good start.
“We’re into the last 16 and our goal is to do better than we did in the last three seasons and that’s what we will try to do.”
Sergio Aguero made a goalscoring return for City, netting the second after his recent injury woes.
On the Argentine, Silva added: “Very happy, everyone knows how important he is for us.
“He is one of best players to ever play for this club, he’s a goalscorer and a fantastic guy to have in the dressing room as well. Good to have him back.”
City travel to Old Trafford on Saturday, where United have struggled for form this season. Moreover, the Red Devils will come into Saturday’s match after being dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday.
Silva sends Man Utd warning
Asked about his side’s preparations for the match, Silva sent a warning to his rivals.
“It’s been a few games that we’ve been winning, when you win its easier to go into the next game and win again and win again,” he said.
“So to have these games in a row winning of course it’s very nice and we just want to keep the momentum going.
“We know we have a tough game against Manchester United at the weekend and we want to just keep winning.”
City next return to the Etihad Stadium next Tuesday when West Brom are the visitors.
