Marcelo Bielsa: Had second thoughts about Lazio

Marcelo Bielsa has gone back on the agreement he signed earlier this week to take over as Lazio coach.

The Argentine coach was due to arrive with his staff in Rome this weekend to take charge at the Serie A club but only two days after the appointment was announced, Lazio have confirmed that Bielsa will not be coming after all.

Reports have linked Bielsa with the Argentina position, which was vacated by Gerardo Martino earlier this week. The vacancy appears to have prompted a change of heart which has left Lazio fuming.

The club said in a statement on Friday: “We note with surprise of the resignation of Mr Marcelo Bielsa, in clear violation of the commitments undertaken with the contracts signed last week and deposited with the League and the FIGC.”

Lazio have handed the reins back to caretaker boss Simone Inzaghi.
