Euro Paper Talk: Big Tottenham signing agrees three-year deal to leave as suitors hurry for deal today; Arsenal braced for £17m bid for star they don’t want to lose
There could be a departure from Tottenham Hotspur today as a bidder rushes through a deal for Davinson Sanchez, while Arsenal are braced for an offer to sell Jorginho – all in Monday’s European transfer gossip.
DAVINSON SANCHEZ AGREES GALATASARAY CONTRACT
Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez has agreed a three-year contract with Galatasaray, who want the deal done in time to register him in their Champions League squad.
That’s according to Aksam, which has followed up on recent claims that Galatasaray are keen on signing Sanchez by providing the details of the deal he is in line to sign and when it could happen.
The Turkish source claims Sanchez has given the green light to a deal with Galatasaray that would last for three years. In addition, his potential next club would have the option to keep him for a fourth.
Since he is now 27 years old, his proposed deal with the Super Lig champions would take him through what should be the remainder of his peak years – even if many would argue that he never actually reached his potential after his big-money move to Tottenham from Ajax.
Clubs in Turkey can sign players until September 15, but Galatasaray want the Sanchez deal done today. That’s because there is a deadline of the end of the day to register him in their squad list for the Champions League group stage.
Galatasaray have been drawn in a group with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Copenhagen. It will be their first time in the group stage of UEFA’s top competition since the 2019-20 season, but they may need to strengthen their squad to get out of it for the first time since 2013-14.
This summer, they have already taken Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea, Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace and Tete from Shakhtar Donetsk after his loan spell with Leicester City, as well as former Manchester City full-back Angelino from RB Leipzig and a few other pieces of business.
Spurs still have centre-back options without Sanchez
If Sanchez goes there too, Tottenham would be left with just Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Eric Dier, Ashley Phillips and Ben Davies as players to pick from at centre-half.
The right-footed Romero and left-footed Van de Ven have combined for their starting partnership in all four of their Premier League matches so far this season, from which they are unbeaten.
In their Carabao Cup loss to Fulham on penalties, meanwhile, Sanchez started alongside summer signing Van de Ven. The Colombia international missed a penalty in the shootout, consigning Spurs to elimination.
There are no details from Aksam about the kind of fee that Galatasaray will give Tottenham for Sanchez. Indeed, the report merely reflects his Transfermarkt value of €15m (£12.8m).
