Blackburn Rovers loan Swedish striker from Leeds

Blackburn have bolstered their attacking ranks by signing Marcus Antonsson on a season-long loan from Leeds.

A Blackburn Rovers club statement read, “Blackburn Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson from Leeds United on a season-long loan.”

The 26-year-old moved to Elland Road last summer but scored just three times in 21 appearances, 10 of which were starts.

However, Antonsson boasted a prolific record in his homeland. In just 40 appearances at previous club Kalmar the Swede managed to bag 22 goals. Rovers boss Tony Mowbray will hope he can replicate that in League One.

A number of Swedish clubs were interested in signing Antonsson before the end of the transfer window, however, it appears that he has unfinished business in English football. For that reason he has chosen to join Mowbray’s promotion hopefuls as the destination to reinvigorate his career.

The Swedish striker could make his debut as early as Saturday’s League One clash against Doncaster Rovers. Blackburn will hope to improve on Saturday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Coventry.
