Blow for Tottenham as summer target signs new contract in Serie A

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Nicolo Zaniolo has agreed a contract extension at Roma, the Italian club have confirmed.

Italy international Zaniolo had been linked with Spurs in the summer as they looked to add more creativity in their midfield, while Juventus were also hot on his heels after a breakout season.

However, Roma have now confirmed that the 20-year-old won’t be going anywhere, as he has extended his contract until 2024.

While it is only a one-year extension for the man they signed from Inter Milan last summer, it is believed that he has been given a significant pay-rise after surpassing expectations in his first season with the club.

“A year ago it was an easy decision to choose Roma, and today it is even easier,” explained the midfielder via the club’s Twitter account. “I would like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to tie myself even closer to these colours – it is exactly what I wanted.”
