Dortmund await new Man Utd bid for Sancho after clarifying asking price

Borussia Dortmund are hoping that Manchester United will revive their interest in Jadon Sancho this summer, a report claims.
Sancho was United’s top target in the summer 2020 transfer window as they looked for a new right winger. However, Dortmund’s asking price was off-putting.
The German giants were holding out for €120m after Sancho had scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in last season’s Bundesliga. That was a price that United were unwilling to pay, so they shifted their attention to other targets.
But links with Sancho have not gone away. And with the winger suffering from a dip in form this season, they may be hoping to sign him for a cut-price fee.
It seems Dortmund are willing to do a deal as well – but only on their terms.
According to SportBILD, Dortmund are planning to sell Sancho this summer so they can reinvest in their squad.
One of their main targets is PSV starlet Donyell Malen, whom they would only be able to afford by selling Sancho. Therefore, they are waiting for a fresh bid from United.
However, somewhat optimistically, they still expect last summer’s €120m valuation to be met.

Why Man Utd's Sancho pursuit failed
Manchester United's failure to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund is analysed by Raphael Honigstein and Dharmesh Sheth on the Transfer Talk podcast.
That seems unreasonable given that Sancho has not been in the same form as he was in 2019-20. In his defence, he has still provided six Bundesliga goals and nine assists, but his form has not been that of a player worth a nine-figure sum.
Given that United were not willing to pay €120m last summer, it seems even less likely that they would do so now.

Even so, Dortmund retain hope that they will be able to shift Sancho for a big profit. In turn, that would give them the funds they need to begin their rebuild under new coach Marco Rose.
It remains to be seen how much they will be willing to negotiate over the asking price.
Sancho plans shelved
They may not even receive a bid from Man Utd for Sancho at all, if reports last month were to be believed.
There were claims that United had dropped their interest in the England international to focus on strengthening other areas.
Even so, Sancho remains a player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likes. Therefore, if there is an opportunity to sign him, they may reignite their pursuit.
It does not appear that being asked to pay €120m is the opportunity they were looking for, though.
