Bowyer laughs off Marshall rumours

Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with the former Manchester United trainee as they look to take advantage of Sky Bet Championship rival Rovers’ transfer embargo.

However, despite losing Tom Cairney to Fulham earlier this summer, Bowyer is determined to keep the versatile Marshall in his squad.

Responding to speculation Marshall could be the subject of a £1.5million switch, the Blackburn boss told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: “The figures that have been mentioned wouldn’t buy his right foot – and he’s got two outstanding feet and a fantastic head.”

Marshall was used out wide, at full-back and in the middle of the park last term when injuries struck Bowyer’s side.

And with central midfielder Cairney now plying his trade elsewhere, Bowyer sees Marshall having an even bigger role in his squad.

“Ben can do the things that Tom brought to the team and he is also has that adaptability and flexibility, which is vital for us,” he added.

“He’s come back in the best shape I’ve seen him since he’s been at the club and he’s really focused.”
