Leicester City are close to completing a deadline-day loan deal to bring Wolves defender Ryan Bennett to the King Power Stadium, according to reports.
Foxes centre-back duo Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans have impressed so far this season with Leicester conceding only 24 Premier League goals to date, the top flight’s second-best record behind Liverpool.
However, Wes Morgan is Leicester’s only other centre-back behind that pair, with Filip Benkovic not expected to be handed a first-team role by boss Brendan Rodgers.
According to Daily Telegraph‘s John Percy – via the journalist’s Twitter account – Rodgers is keen to add cover at the back before Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
It is claimed that the manager has found a solution to his problem, with Bennett expected to undergo a medical with the club later on Friday.
Bennett has only made 19 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this term, with Nuno Espirito not looking to replace him due to Willy Boly’s return to full fitness.
The journalist also says in another tweet that Leicester will have either an option or an obligation to make the deal permanent for £5m in the summer.
Bennett’s arrival is subsequently expected to allow Benkovic to go out on loan, with Bristol City a likely destination for the 22-year-old.
Leicester host Chelsea in a key top-four clash on Saturday, with the Foxes having lost three of their last seven league fixtures.
In other Leicester news, reports have claimed to outline why the Foxes blocked an approach from Manchester United for striker Islam Slimani.
Slimani is out on loan at Monaco until the end of the season but has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as part of United’s hunt for a striker.
However, reports have suggested that Rodgers was unwilling to let Slimani leave and subsequently see United strengthen from a departure from the King Power Stadium.
