Fernandes reveals Ronaldo conversation that helped seal Man Utd move

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has opened up about a conversation with club legend and compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo that helped seal his Old Trafford move.

Fernandes is expected to make his debut at Old Trafford in some capacity during United’s Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday, having been announced by the Red Devils on Thursday.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talked in a press conference on Friday about how the Portugal international has endured a hectic few days  – which included his daughter’s birthday.

Fernandes, however, revealed only his delight at moving to Old Trafford in his first interview with the club.

As part of that interview on the club’s official website, Fernandes also revealed how he had received approval over the move from Ronaldo, who became one of the world’s best players while in Manchester.

“I talked about Manchester United with Cristiano,” said Fernandes.

“He just said good things about United. He said he started living his dream here and he started being a really good player here.

“I think he is happy with my transfer and I also talked with Ole and he said he asked Cristiano about me and he said good things about me which is good.

“Cristiano plays with me in the national team and he knows me, and for me he’s a good person. I want to follow his steps.

“Now I want to write my history, different to Cristiano because he is the best player in the world.

“He has played 15 years at the top and it’s difficult to do this, but I want to give my best to write my name in the history of Manchester United.”

Elsewhere, United had a frantic end to the January transfer window after confirming the loan signing of Odion Ighalo just after midnight on Saturday.

The Red Devils were in need of a striker and had been linked with several players throughout January, eventually closing in on the Nigeria international as time ran out.

Solskjaer has explained his thinking after the move was announced.
