Manchester United face competition for striker Mario Mandzukic after Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund reportedly made a bid for the Croatian.
Manchester United are understood to have tried to sign the Juventus striker this summer, but Juve refused to sell the forward, while Tuttosport claimed this week that United have since tried to line up a January move for the same player.
Now though Bild claim Dortmund are in pursuit of Mandzukic, and have made an offer for the 32-year-old striker, although a deal will be difficult to push through before tomorrow’s Bundesliga transfer deadline.
Juventus though remain desperate to keep hold of Mandzukic with Massimiliano Allegri considering the player to be a vital part of his plans at the Turin club.
This week, Italian outlet Tuttosport reported that Juventus had offered Mandzukic a “contract for life” after United’s latest approach.
It’s claimed Mourinho sees the forward as the perfect focal point for his attack, which he feels his side has lacked since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure earlier this year and was hoping to get the player on board in January.
The Serie A club plans to sit down with the striker’s agent and offer him a bumper extension to his contract, which is currently due to expire in 2020.
Mandzukic scored the second goal in Juventus’ 2-0 win over Lazio at the weekend, after a scuffed shot from Ronaldo became an assist for the World Cup finalist.
