Canaries down after Addicks defeat

Charlton, whose own relegation was sealed a fortnight ago, dragged the Canaries down with them courtesy of Deon Burton’s hat-trick.

Nicky Bailey’s 13th goal of the season proved unlucky for City after just 10 minutes, and Burton’s quickfire double put the Addicks 3-0 up after half an hour.

Alan Lee did pull one back with the last action of the first half, but Burton’s third six minutes after the break condemned Norwich to third-tier football for the first time since 1960.

Sammy Clingan reduced the arrears again with a fine free-kick, but Norwich will join Charlton and Southampton – all of whom were living the Premier League high life just four years ago – in League One next term.
