Carlisle v Wycombe preview

Carlisle have suffered a double injury blow in the build-up to their home clash with promotion-chasing Wycombe.

Midfielder David Symington will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury while on loan at Workington, while goalkeeper Mark Gillespie has been ruled out for up to six weeks after tearing his groin.

Centre-back Troy Archibald-Henville is expected to shrug off an ongoing knee problem to take his place in the starting line-up, where he will be joined by Kyle Dempsey, who signed an improved 18-month deal on Wednesday.

The Blues head into the weekend three points above the relegation zone after back-to-back defeats.

Wycombe look ready to hand a start to Paul Hayes for the first time since early January when they make the trip.

The Blues have struggled to score goals since their top scorer picked up a calf injury six weeks ago but he returned to action as a substitute in their defeat to Newport last weekend and is expected to step back in the starting line-up.

Matt McClure, who missed a few chances against the Exiles, could be the player to make way as the Chairboys look to get back to winning ways.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men sit five points off the top two following back-to-back defeats.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has no new injury concerns.

The Cumbrians clinched their first away league win in four matches as substitute Francois Zoko grabbed an injury time winner against Scunthorpe.

The striker will be pushing for a starting place after grabbing all three points for his side, while Paddy Madden will also be looking for his first start up-front after recovering from a broken bone in his foot.

Defender Frank Simek’s return from injury is immanent but he looks set to sit out another week.

On-loan defender Chris Chantler is also looking for his first start in a Carlisle shirt, as Greg Abbott looks for the win that could see his side break into the top six.

Scott Donnelly’s injury has come as a blow for Wycombe.

Donnelly faces a spell on the sidelines after injuring his right knee during the early stages of the 3-2 home win over Chesterfield last weekend.

The midfielder, on loan from Swansea, was carried off on a stretcher and left Adams Park on crutches.

He is out but on-loan QPR midfielder Martin Rowlands has resumed full training following a recurrence of a hamstring problem and could make a timely return to contention.

Captain Gareth Ainsworth returned to the squad against Chesterfield and was an unused substitute after missing the whole of November with a broken hand. He could replace Donnelly in the starting XI.

On-loan striker Marcello Trotta will be involved for the final time, with his month-long loan deal from Fulham set to expire after Saturday’s game.
