Carrick talks up his Man Utd midfield replacement

Michael Carrick has praised the ever improving Scott McTominay ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup fifth-round clash with Huddersfield on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who made his Premier League debut against Arsenal last May, looks likely to be handed another start when United head to the John Smith’s Stadium this weekend.

The highly-rated midfielder was even preferred to the club’s record signing Paul Pogba in the recent league win over Town at Old Trafford.

And ahead of the game against the Terriers, Carrick, who looks set to hang up his boots at the end of the season, was full of praise for the youngster.

The former England star said: “Scotty has done great. I know he’ll take my place some day and that’s not something I would be afraid of.

“It’s my responsibility to do all I can to help him. It’s something I really enjoy, to see the younger lads coming in and getting a chance.”
