I think in terms of management, many of you are overrating your pull appeal. Few managers would leave another top CL team to manage Chelsea, given a poor run of results prompts the sack. Why would Simione leave a good thing in Atletico to manage Chelsea? He has beaten you in the CL and Atletico will be in the CL next year, whilst you will not be. You may say but in the long term Chelsea will be better choice than Atletico. But there lays the fault, ‘long term’ and Chelsea do not mix.

I think Chelsea need to look at managers already not at top clubs, or managers currently out of a job. Simione and Pep are beyond your reach – they have better options.

Truth is, you have done this to yourself over years of getting rid of managers and showcasing no desire to back a manager when the going gets tough.

Pep for instance would almost certainly want to bring a different brand of football, but what if it takes time to implement? Sure assurances would be made – but could Pep really trust Roman?

I reckon your best bets are keeping Hiddink, or taking Pellegrini. But Pep or Simione – no chance.
