Man Utd man holds showdown exit talks with chiefs, ignoring key advice

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has held talks with the club and told chiefs of his wish to move to Boca Juniors, a report claims.

The Uruguayan became a headline signing at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day in October last year. While he was not the Red Devils’ top target last summer, he has added vital goalscoring prowess. Indeed, he has scored 10 goals and given invaluable advice to the likes of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

However, his future has become uncertain, beginning with his father’s comments about his plans.

Luis Cavani claimed that there is a 60 per cent chance of his son leaving this summer – and for Boca. Furthermore, reports claimed that United chiefs became frustrated at the player’s injury niggles.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that his club are in talks over Cavani’s future.

According to Argentine source Depo, however, the 34-year-old has already made up his mind.

The striker has gone to club chiefs to express his wish to move on at the end of the season and sign for Boca.

In doing so, he is going against the advice of his national team’s head coach. Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez recently urged Cavani to seek a move elsewhere in Europe to maintain his World Cup 2022 hopes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says there is 'open dialogue' with Edinson Cavani

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says there is 'open dialogue' with Edinson Cavani over his future and is relaxed with the forward needing time to decide his future.

But the forward’s simple reason for wishing to return to South America is to be closer to his family.

As for Boca’s interest, they are ready to ‘open the wallet’ in the hope of launching a firm bid to win the esteemed Copa Libertadores title.

Cavani is also turning down ‘several’ offers from Brazil to move to Argentina, Depo reports.

However, the source does not name the clubs involved.

Man Utd urged to keep Cavani

In any case, United could look to replace the player if he does choose to leave.

According to ex-Red Devil Owen Hargreaves, the Old Trafford club should keep Cavani, instead of launching a transfer raid for the likes of Borussia Dortmund marksman Erling Haaland.

Hargreaves, speaking after United’s recent Europa League win over Granada, insisted that there are greater areas of concern in Solskjaer’s side than up front.
