Martin Odegaard TEAMtalk

Dani Ceballos says that Martin Odegaard needs to go and play amid talk the midfielder is a target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The Real Madrid midfielder is believed to have asked to leave the Bernabeu to get some games under his belt.

The 22-year-old was excellent on loan at Real Sociedad last season, but has struggled for playing time under Zinedine Zidane.

Football Espana claim that Sociedad are in talks with Real Madrid over a loan move for Odegaard with an option to buy included.

The San Sebastian club have have seen plenty of transfer movement with Willian Jose heading to Wolves on loan and agreeing a deal with Sevilla for Carlos Fernandez.

Man Utd have also been linked with Odegaard with Don Balon reporting that the Red Devils were prepared to pay €50m for the Norway international.

Football.london suggest “the Gunners are among the teams linked with a move for Odegaard” and he could be a feasible option for Arteta.

And now Sky Sports report that Arsenal have made an approach for the player.

The club do have a good relationship with Los Blancos after securing loan moves in consecutive seasons for Ceballos.

And it’s Ceballos who has spoken out about his Real team-mate.

“Young players need to play regularly,” Ceballos told EFE.

“At Real Madrid, I needed to know that I will have equal opportunities. I was obsessed with playing again.

“I wasn’t getting minutes, but I realised it was best to work and reverse the situation and be important.

“If I do this, I’ll play again. It couldn’t have been any clearer.

Smith-Rowe emergence

“I can tell you what happened to me at Madrid. I don’t know exactly what will happen with Martin Odegaard, but it is obvious that any player who wants to succeed at Madrid is going to grab the opportunity he has.”

Arteta was hunting for a No.10 in the summer with Houssem Aouar and Dominik Szoboszlai both believed to be targets.

Since then Mesut Ozil has all but completed a move to Fenerbahce. But Emile Smith Rowe has emerged as Arteta’s driving force from the No.10 role in Arsenal’s revival.

Whether or not Arteta’s priority is still another attacking midfielder remains unclear, but Sky report they have made a move. Odegaard is available and links with the LaLiga giants are already established.
