Celtic are reportedly softening their stance over a potential transfer of Odsonne Edouard, who has been linked with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leeds.
Edouard has been a standout player for Celtic ever since joining them in 2018. The striker was their top scorer in each of his first two seasons at the club.
His form in Scotland has seen him regularly linked with a move south to the Premier League. A number of clubs would be willing to make offers for him.
For example, reports have suggested that Arsenal could try to sign him in 2021. The Gunners believe Edouard has what it takes to succeed in England and could test Celtic’s resolve.
Alternatively, there have been links with Aston Villa and Leeds, as well as Wolves. However, the latest information about Edouard suggests his future may not be in the Premier League after all.
According to Tuttosport, the PSG academy product is now a target for Juventus. The Serie A champions have been searching for a new striker for several months, and have now apparently turned their attention to Edouard.
The report suggested that a deal would be difficult due to Celtic not wanting to let go of him in January. With Neil Lennon’s side playing catch-up to Rangers in the title race, they would not want to lose their main goal threat.
However, an update from journalist Ignazio Genuardi, Celtic are re-considering their position on Edouard.
The striker is out of contract in 2022, so if they cannot convince him to extend his deal, they may have to cash in on him.
As things stand, they are trying to tie him down to better terms. However, if Edouard does not sign up, it will leave them with a difficult decision.
Genuardi claims Celtic have lowered their valuation of Edouard to somewhere between €25m and €30m. It suggests they are coming to terms with the fact that they may have to sell him.
Whether his eventual destination will be in Italy or England will only become clearer in time.
Celtic could move for Liverpool striker
In a further sign that Celtic may be preparing for Edouard to leave, they were linked with a move for a Liverpool striker earlier this week.
According to 90min, Celtic are weighing up a bid for Taiwo Awoniyi, who is currently impressing on loan with Union Berlin.
Awoniyi is still waiting for his Liverpool debut due to difficulties securing a work permit. However, Celtic may be able to sign him if they wish.
The report claimed Liverpool could accept a bid in the region of £5m for the Nigerian forward, making him an affordable target for several clubs.
Celtic would face competition from Rangers, as well as some English clubs.
