Celtic star backs £30m talisman to snub potential Arsenal switch

Odsonne Edouard

Christopher Jullien is backing his fellow countryman Odsonne Edouard to snub any potential moves this summer and stay at Celtic.

The current delays to the season have delayed the reigning Scottish champions from opening contract talks with the striker but Jullien believes that he will stay at Parkhead.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Frenchman has said that whilst there will be a lot of interest in Edouard, with Arsenal known to be chasing his signature, it would be brilliant for the club if he stayed.

Jullien said: “Odsonne is a good player and one day he will have a lot of clubs interested in him.

“But he’s in a really good place right now with Celtic. He’s done some unbelievable stuff and I really hope that he’ll stay here.

“I enjoy playing with him and I want him to stay for as long as he can. That would be incredible for everyone at Celtic.”

Edouard has scored 27 times and added an impressive 19 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions for Celtic this season.

That form has led to strong interest from the Premier League in England, as well as clubs in France, with the Gunners said to be weighing-up a £30million bid for the player t0 replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, Jullien insists that Edouard, who one pundit has tipped Leeds to make a move for, is happy with life in Glasgow.

He added: “It’s so difficult just now with this situation. People speak about transfers but who knows when football will be back?

“After that, all the other stuff can happen. But don’t worry, I’m sure Odsonne is happy where he is.

“I’m sure he will stay. He is silent, he hides what he is feeling and he’s someone who controls his emotions.

“But he’s a really good guy, trust me. He is quite happy at Celtic.”

Celtic are expected to be in a strong enough position financially to keep Edouard from out of the clutches of other clubs, although theuy may be tempted to sell if an inflated offer is made from the forward.

And that could come for the Gunners if they lose top marksman Aubameyang, who has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Chelsea links prompt Aubameyang father to send message to Arsenal striker

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s father has offered his son some words of advice after it was reported that Chelsea had become the latest side to enquire for the Arsenal striker.

Aubameyang is close to entering the final year of his contract at Emirates Stadium, but there have been no signs of him intending to extend his stay in north London, despite his regular claims that he has no desire to leave.

Arsenal can either chose to cash in on the player, who has scored 61 goals in 97 games for the club, or risk losing him for nothing from next January.

As such, there is a growing feeling in the game that the Gunners could be forced to cash in on their prized asset in the summer window, with the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Inter Milan all mentioned as potential suitors for the prolific Gabon international. Read more…
