Everton have confirmed that striker Cenk Tosun has returned to former club Besiktas on loan.

Tosun previously played for Besiktas between 2014 and 2018, earning a move to Goodison Park at the end of his spell there.

However, he has been unable to carry his good form in front of goal over to the Premier League. Injuries have played their part in hampering his progress on Merseyside.

Tosun has scored just nine goals from 49 games for Everton. He failed to score in five attempts in the Premier League this season.

The Turkey international spent the second half of last season on loan with Crystal Palace. Now, he will spend another spell away from Everton.

Beskitas have re-signed Tosun on a deal until the end of the season. It puts an end to speculation led by his agent that he could have stayed in the Premier League with West Brom.

Instead, he will return to Turkey for the remainder of the campaign. He will hope to rediscover his form in familiar surroundings.

The 29-year-old scored 64 goals from 142 games during his previous spell with Besiktas.

Tosun remains under contract with Everton until 2022.

Everton make King enquiry

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Everton could bring in a more reliable striker in the shape of Joshua King.

The Bournemouth striker will be available for free in the summer but clubs could try to do a deal for him on Deadline Day.

Everton are said to be among the interested parties, but they face competition from another Premier League side.
