Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Senegal international goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes, according to widespread reports.
Mendy has been one of Chelsea’s main targets during this transfer window, with Frank Lampard keen to sign a new goalkeeper.
Lampard lost faith in Kepa Arrizabalaga at various points throughout last season. Even though Chelsea have struggled to find a buyer for Kepa, they have still been looking for more competition for his place.
That will arrive in the form of Mendy, who will cost around £22m. He has already agreed personal terms.
TEAMtalk revealed earlier this week that complications had arisen in the final stages of the deal, but optimism remained that it would go through.
Now, those issues appear to have been resolved, with the deal closing in on its final stages.
Rennes asked about Chelsea pair
Mendy will sign a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, having been recommended to Chelsea by Petr Cech.
Rennes reportedly asked about taking Olivier Giroud or Fikayo Tomori in return. But it appears the two clubs have come to an agreement without any counterweights.
Mendy will become the latest major signing in a high-spending summer at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have also signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva, while they remain in the hunt for Declan Rice.
