Gonzalo Higuain: Gunners receive boost in striker hunt

The agent of Arsenal and Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain has rubbished reports the striker could leave Napoli in January.

Higuain has recently been linked with a big-money move to Chelsea, as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster the Blues’ firepower, while it was suggested the Argentinian was a target for Arsene Wenger over the summer.

However Higuain’s brother and agent Nicolas insists the 27-year-old, who is believed to have a release clause of £67million, is not interested in leaving Naples.

“We’re doing really well with Napoli,” he told TuttoNapoli.net. “I’ve been in Argentina for five months, I’m not travelling around the world trying to sell my brother.

“If tomorrow a club arrived and found an agreement with De Laurentiis it would be another matter and we would talk with him about it, but from our part that intention isn’t there.

“We aren’t planning a future elsewhere.”

It was suggested Higuain may look for a transfer after Napoli failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive season.

However the former Real Madrid forward signed a new deal at the club and has been in fine form this campaign, leading the Serie A goalscoring charts with nine as Napoli sit two points off league leaders Fiorentina.

“Gonzalo has had a dream of winning something big with this team from the day he first set foot in Naples,” his agent added added.

“This year, we are confident: the team is doing well, they play with more intensity, they’re more organised.

“There is a special feeling [with manager Maurizio Sarri]. Gonzalo grew up as a footballer and a person as the world’s biggest club, surrounded by champions. Now he is reaching maturity.”
