Chelsea refuse to be denied and are preparing an even higher bid than the £110m effort Liverpool saw accepted for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, per a report.

Chelsea and Liverpool both tabled colossal bids for the Ecuador international through the night. The Blues offered £100m, but were outgunned by the Reds who committed to paying £110m.

Brighton are determined to wrap up a deal before the new season begins and accepted Liverpool’s offer.

When speaking about the proposed move during a press conference on Friday morning, Jurgen Klopp said: “The fee with the club is agreed. We will see what that means.

“We aren’t a club with endless resources and we didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer. Then it happened.”

Liverpool are still to agree personal terms with Caicedo who various sources have claimed prefers a move to Chelsea. Nonetheless, the Athletic’s David Ornstein described agreeing personal terms as a ‘formality’ for Liverpool.

Klopp’s side hastily scheduled a medical in an attempt to prevent the deal from being hijacked. However, according to the Guardian, Chelsea have other ideas.

Indeed, they state the Blues are ready to raise the stakes once again and go beyond the £110m bid Liverpool made.

Caicedo is their top summer target and Todd Boehly and co will not give up without pushing right until the very end.

Whether Chelsea have left it too late is a question the Guardian pose. As yet, that question does not have an answer.

In any case, Chelsea intend to table a higher offer than Liverpool and once they do, all eyes will be on whether Brighton discard Liverpool’s deal and move forward with Chelsea.

A subsequent update from Fabrizio Romano revealed Caicedo is primed to reject Liverpool and sign for Chelsea.

“Moises Caicedo has just informed Liverpool that he only wants to join Chelsea!” tweeted Romano.

Personal terms between Caicedo and the Blues have been agreed since May.
