Leicester’s Chelsea-linked left-back Ben Chilwell has made his lofty ambitions known to Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, according to one journalist.
Chilwell has become one of the Premier League’s most exciting full-backs and has missed only six top-flight games this term.
Rodgers has been especially key in helping the 23-year-old progress since his arrival in the dugout in February last year.
Reports say Chelsea are keen on his signature, with Blues boss Frank Lampard making the England international his top target.
Chelsea will reportedly entice the left-back to Stamford Bridge with the prospect of playing alongside fellow Three Lions stars such as Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount.
Speaking to the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Ian McGarry detailed the latest conversations between Chilwell and Rodgers.
He also spoke of how former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has been influential in Chilwell’s thinking.
“It’s our understanding that the interest is very much concrete, Leicester are aware of it,” McGarry said.
The player himself has also explained his situation to manager Brendan Rodgers with regards to his ambitions.
“Rodgers is keen not to lose the player, but the player himself is very attracted to a move to Stamford Bridge.
“One of the reasons for that – on both sides – is Ashley Cole.
“Ashley Cole, we understand, highly rates Chilwell and thinks he has all the attributes to make an elite player in that position that he excelled in himself.”
McGarry also revealed that Leicester are beginning to look for replacements in the event of Chilwell leaving.
The Foxes wanted to keep Harry Maguire last summer but Manchester United eventually signed him after paying £80million.
“Leicester won’t want to lose him, but they did lose Harry Maguire. It went to the last couple of weeks of the transfer window last summer.
“We understand that in regards to Chilwell’s future, Leicester are being reasonable and practical and pragmatic, and are looking at potential replacements.”
CHELSEA SET TO BE BUSY
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reportedly wants a second marquee signing and among the targets are RB Leizpig striker Timo Werner.
The Blues already have an impending arrival in Hakim Ziyech, who will begin his Blues career next season.
To fund such a busy summer, Chelsea are believed to be looking at selling several players to balance the books – Willian and Pedro will both leave upon the expiration of their contracts in the coming months, while fringe players could also be sold.
Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is a prime candidate, having spent the season on loan at Monaco.
