Chelsea line up La Liga star, Ligue 1 marksman as Sancho alternatives

Chelsea will look to a rising Nigerian winger plying his trade in Spain, along with Lyon hitman Moussa Dembele if they succumb to defeat in the race to sign Jadon Sancho.

The 20-year-old Dortmund sensation appears set to be on the move this summer, with both Man Utd and Chelsea having registered strong interest over recent months.

A recent report detailed a particular area of concern the Red Devils have regarding Sancho’s potential switch to Old Trafford, though with their financial muscle, many predict Utd will usurp The Blues in their quest to bring the winger back to England.

That scenario would leave Frank Lampard looking elsewhere for summer reinforcements, with the ongoing uncertainty over the future of veteran trio Pedro, Willian and Olivier Giroud potentially leaving a dearth in attacking options for next season.

One player who could fill the void is Villareal’s Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze.

The left-footed right winger has been a mainstay in the Yellow Submarine’s forward line over the past two seasons, and previously indicated that the Blues are his favourite team in England.

Online publication state that should the men from Stamford Bridge lose out in the Sancho sweepstakes, that the club ‘will consider Samuel Chukwueze as an alternative.’

The 21-year-old has etched his name onto the scoresheet on 12 separate occasions in 68 appearances for Villareal, and was previously reported to be valued at around the €65m mark.

Elsewhere, the Goal article details the viability of Lyon marksman Moussa Dembele to add further attacking impetus to the Blue’s forward line.

With their fleeting interest in RB Leipzig superstar Timo Werner now seemingly over, the ex-Fulham and Celtic striker could be the ideal candidate to ease the scoring burden on Tammy Abraham.

Moussa Dembele TEAMtalk

Operating at almost a goal every other game throughout the entirety of his career thus far, the hitman may be on the move after Lyon missed out on the Champions League places for the first time since 2014.

Though, the club are currently disputing Ligue 1’s decision to call a premature halt to the 2019-20 campaign, Goal note that Dembele would be a suitable signing for Chelsea ‘who have long tracked the 23-year-old.’

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been named as a rival to Real Madrid in their pursuit of a £40m-rated Leicester City midfielder.
