Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.
It has been a busy transfer window for the Blues, who have spent big on Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell, while also adding Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr on free transfers.
Havertz was the next player they were pursuing, and they announced on Friday night that they have got the deal over the line.
The German midfielder has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Reports earlier revealed it would not be for a club record fee, although the price is over £70m.
After signing his contract, Havertz revealed his enthusiasm when speaking to Chelsea’s website.
“I am very happy and proud to be here,” he said.
“For me it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can’t wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here!”
Granovskaia labels Havertz ‘dynamic talent’
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia explained why they wanted to sign Havertz so much.
“Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea,” she said.
“He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent.
“We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins.”
