Chelsea fail in Henderson approach after Man Utd’s stern response

Dean Henderson Sheffield United TEAMtalk

Manchester United have rejected an approach from Chelsea for on-loan Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to a report.

Football Insider claims United’s unwillingness to sell to a top-four rival is behind their response.

Chelsea reportedly made their approach amid their hunt for a new goalkeeper before next season. Boss Frank Lampard is unclear about Kepa Arrizabalaga’s longevity after a mixed run of form.

As such, Henderson – on loan at the Blades – has become a top target for the Blues. The Englishman has kept 13 Premier League clean sheets this season, the division’s second-best record.

After United’s rejection, however, Football Insider adds that Chelsea’s resolve in securing a deal remains unclear.

What is clear, however. is that the Blues’ recruitment and analyst team rate Henderson highly.

The 22-year-old’s transfer value has reportedly increased to over £40million after his successful spell in the top flight.

Neither Sheffield United or the Red Devils, though, have yet to decide on Henderson’s future beyond the end of the season.

At United, David de Gea is the undisputed first-choice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Such a stance reportedly formed part of Chelsea’s approach, with the Blues confident of offering him game time.

Reports in recent months have linked Chelsea with several other players, including Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.

The speculation has mounted following the club’s willingness to spend for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, with funds available following two quiet previous transfer windows.

David Moyes has admitted that Rice could be West Ham’s best defender and midfielder rolled into one. Havertz, meanwhile, has reportedly given Chelsea his word over a move.
