Chelsea have emerged as the clear favourites to land Lazio captain Lucas Biglia, according to Calciomercato.
The 30-year-old Argentine midfielder has failed to agree a new contract in Rome and reports from the Italian capital suggest he may be sold in January.
Lazio President Claudio Lotito is believed to have offered the player a new deal which would see his salary raised from €1.4million a year to €2.5million, plus bonuses.
Biglia though is yet to put pen to paper on the proposed arrangement and may well be hoping to earn more elsewhere and so the Serie A club could be preparing to cash in on the player.
Calciomercato claim “that Lotito will only listen to offers of around €25million” and that will rule out Juventus and Inter – the other two clubs who were in the running.
The Italian duo, are reportedly not prepared to pay that type of money in January, leaving Chelsea seemingly in the clear to get their man.
But new Stamford Bridge boss Antonio Conte is believed to be a big admirer of the Argentine international and has been monitoring the situation since arriving at Chelsea in the summer.
The Blues boss has been using N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic as his holding midfield players this season and Biglia would face a battle for game time if he arrived next month.
