Chelsea will submit their own offer for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon in the “coming days” that will beat Everton’s latest bid, according to a report.
The 23-year-old has emerged as an exciting prospect in Europe after his loan spell with Sevilla.
The Spaniard played 31 times in LaLiga to help his side finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.
Earlier reports suggested Tottenham were the early frontrunners to sign Regulion. However Everton made the first firm move last week with an £18million bid.
Now, Sky Sports News claims Chelsea have approached Sevilla to cement their interest in the player. What’s more, they will send their own offer to the Spanish club which will be worth more than the Toffees’ bid.
Madrid are admirers of academy product Reguilon but the presence of Ferland Mendy and Marcelo means he would struggle for game time.
Sevilla are therefore keen on another loan move themselves. However they are aware Reguilon’s performances have attracted the attention of clubs who can finance a permanent deal.
Sky Sports News adds that Chelsea’s interest in the Spaniard could raise doubts over their chase for Ben Chilwell.
Previous reports claimed the England international, 23, was Frank Lampard’s top target for an addition in the role. Lampard does not believe Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri are solid enough options going forward.
However, a separate report from the Daily Mirror claimed Leicester will demand Chelsea make Chilwell the world’s most expensive defender to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Harry Maguire holds that record, after joining Manchester United from the Foxes for £80million last summer.
CHELSEA KEEN ON NICK POPE?
Elsewhere, reports claim Chelsea are keen on remedying their goalkeeping issues with Burnley’s Nick Pope.
Pope finished second behind Ederson in the race for this season’s Premier League Golden Glove, notching 15 clean sheets.
With Lampard reportedly not keen on Kepa Arrizabalaga, Pope is the latest potential replacement touted.
