Chelsea to greenlight shock Liverpool raid for player other than Mason Mount who’s driving Klopp crazy

A Chelsea star other than Mason Mount is catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye, and a report has claimed the Blues will ‘consider an approach’ this summer.

Liverpool have followed their 7-0 thumping of Man Utd up with three successive defeats. The Reds fell to Bournemouth, Real Madrid and Man City to provide a reminder – if indeed one was even needed – that their team is broken.

Klopp is fully aware of the challenge he faces to put Liverpool back in contention for major honours next season. The German has publicly admitted his side need to do big business this summer.

A wholescale midfield rebuild is required, not least because so many current players are due to depart.

Arthur Melo will return to Juventus once his loan deal concludes. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave as free agents, per Fabrizio Romano. James Milner could also make way if Klopp’s calls for a one-year extension aren’t heeded by Liverpool’s decision-makers.

As such, a plethora of new signings are required and among those Liverpool are monitoring is Mason Mount.

However, according to the Independent, the Reds may yet make it a double of Chelsea raids, with the newspaper claiming Conor Gallagher is wanted too.

The 23-year-old has featured 25 times for the Blues this term, though very few of those outings have been starts.

The arrival of Enzo Fernandez and return to fitness of N’Golo Kante has placed yet more obstacles in Gallagher’s path at Stamford Bridge. Kante is also expected to sign a new contract before the season is out.

As such, Liverpool are sensing an opportunity for Gallagher who is understood to be driving Klopp wild.

Gallagher perfectly suited to Klopp’s Liverpool?

The Reds have always been at their best when fielding an energetic and selfless midfield three. Those are two traits that sum Gallagher up to a tee and his profile is exactly what Klopp wants.

The England international has therefore rocketed up Liverpool’s pecking order and somewhat surprisingly, Chelsea may be willing to play ball.

Indeed, the Blues are poised to feel the heat from Financial Fair Play after forking out well over £500m in the last two windows.

Multiple player exits will soon be required, and despite his status as a homegrown player, Gallagher is someone they’ll ‘at least consider an approach for’.

Some sections of Liverpool’s fanbase may not be all that enthralled with links to Gallagher. However, it’s important to note his game does appear perfectly suited to what Klopp demands from his midfield stars.

Furthermore, owners FSG do not possess bottomless funds and not every player they sign this summer can cost a nine-figure sum like Jude Bellingham will, for example.

If Liverpool do act on their interest in Gallagher and table a bid, a deal appears to be there for the making.

No valuation is cited in the Independent’s piece, though Transfermarkt value the player around the £29m mark. A move to a direct rival in Liverpool would likely come with a premium attached.
