Chelsea hero tells Lampard that £75m target has ‘the right ethos’

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has been told he would be making a shrewd move by signing Ben Chilwell for Chelsea this summer.

Chilwell is on Chelsea’s shopping list as Roman Abramovich embarks on a massive summer spree. Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have already been brought in, with the German confirmed on Thursday.

Now the Russian has his eyes on five more big names – and Chilwell appears top of the list.

Chelsea, however, have been told it will cost £75m to sign the England left-back and that Leicester are prepared to stand their ground.

The Foxes employed a similar tactic last summer when selling Harry Maguire to Manchester United – and Brendan Rodgers remains totally calm.

“There’s no need to comment on it. He’s come back, he looks fantastic,” Rodgers said. “He’s come back refreshed and in everything he’s done he’s looked exceptional.”

Asked again about his future, Rodgers added: “We’re relaxed on it. It’s a sequence the club is used to no. When you have a talented group of players they’re going to make the headlines. But I’m pretty relaxed on it.”

However, Joe Cole is convinced Lampard will land his man. The former Bridge favourite is also convinced that Chilwell would shine under the Chelsea boss’ guidance.

“Similar to Werner, he fits the ethos – he is young, he’s hungry, he’s explosive and athletic,” Cole told BT Sport.

“I think he’s got a lot of talent, if he comes to Chelsea, working with the group there – in Brendan [Rodgers] he’s got a great manager and a great team up at Leicester. But Chelsea’s a step up from Leicester.

“I know they are sitting above Chelsea in the table at the moment but having the opportunity to work with Frank and improve would be immense for him.

“He’s got the left-back position for England in his hands at the moment.

“My advice would be to keep performing, keep consistent. If does do that he can be England’s left-back and, if he does come to Chelsea, Chelsea’s left-back for many years. He’s a terrific player, a real talent.”

Chelsea also make Benrahma breakthrough

Said Benrahma TEAMtalk

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Said Benrahma with Brentford ready to accept a bid of close to £20million for the winger, according to a report.

Lampard is building an exciting side ahead of next season, with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech agreeing deals.

The Blues announced Zieych’s impending move in February, while Werner’s agreement was confirmed last Thursday.

Talks between Chelsea and Brentford have been in progress for weeks and Lampard’s side have now made the breakthrough, with a bid of close to £20million reportedly tempting Brentford into doing business.

Indeed, TEAMtalk revealed last week how Brentford want to keep their star players for at least one more year.

But it seems a breakthrough is close if the latest reports are to be believed.
