Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has hailed the signing of Nemanja Matic at Manchester United as a transfer masterstroke from Jose Mourinho.
The midfielder was part of the Chelsea side that lifted the Premier League title in 2016/17 before moving to the Red Devils this summer in a deal worth £40million.
Antonio Conte has suggested that the decision to sell Matic was against his wishes and Hasselbaink admits he was sad to see him leave Stamford Bridge.
“I was disappointed to see him [Matic] go, I like him a lot as he gives you a balance,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.
“He will be a very, very important player for [Paul] Pogba, he will give him that licence to be creative. Matic will be happy to do the defending and to protect the back four.
“To see him at United, what a signing for Mourinho, he’s done magnificently to convince him to join.”
