Sporting CP could be ready to cash in on Liverpool and Chelsea target Bruno Fernandes in the summer, according to reports in Portugal.
Fernandes has been in sensational form for Sporting this season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions from attacking midfield.
The Portugal international, who was a member of the country’s World Cup squad, has caught the attention of Liverpool and Chelsea thanks to his goalscoring exploits, whilst he has also provided several assists for his teammates.
Now, Portuguese outlet Correio De Manha claim that Sporting are ready to take advantage of Fernandes’ rising market value by selling him in the summer. The club need to raise funds and selling their star player could be the best way to bring that money in.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Chelsea had sent scouts to watch Fernandes in Sporting’s derby with Benfica – a game in which he scored, despite his side losing 2-1. Meanwhile, Liverpool were linked with a move for Fernandes in January.
However, the Premier League pair will face competition from European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, PSG and Juventus as the race for the 24-year-old heats up.
Fernandes was named as the Portuguese league’s player of the season last year, and stayed with Sporting despite initially deciding to terminate his contract following turbulent off-field events in the summer.
The former Udinese and Sampdoria man signed a new contract until 2023 in the summer, which includes a €100m release clause. Fernandes recently inherited the Sporting captaincy from MLS-bound Nani.
