Chelsea are ready to follow up the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax with the addition of Jadon Sancho, according to reports.
The Blues made Ziyech their first signing under Frank Lampard in February, although the winger will wait until next season to join up with his new team, spending the rest of the campaign at Ajax.
Their activity in the transfer market does not appear to have stopped there, as the club work ahead of time to secure more signings before the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
When speaking about their acquisition of Ziyech, Lampard opened the door to more signings if the right opportunities arose.
“We’re always on the lookout, we’re always working together to try and see how we can improve,” he said, “and I think those improvements could be needed maybe in the summer, but we’ll have to try and make sure we get the right ones.”
According to France Football, their next signing is set to be another winger, as they are lining up a club record move for Jadon Sancho.
The England winger has set his heart on a return to the Premier League after blossoming in three years at Borussia Dortmund, but is not expected to come cheap.
Manchester United have been linked with the teenager as they look to invest in promising homegrown players, while Liverpool have also been urged to make a move.
However, Chelsea are the ones to have begun initial talks over a potential transfer, according to France Football, and they will go “all out” to take him to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are yet to spend the money they earned from the sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in 2019, and as per this report, it could be re-invested in another winger to help fill the void left by the Belgian.
Christian Pulisic also made the move from Dortmund to Chelsea, but has not scored since November, while veterans Pedro and Willian are out of contract at the end of the season and are expected to move on.
That would leave Lampard needing a further reinforcement in addition to the incoming Ziyech, and Sancho appears to be the one they are focused on.
However, it is warned that Dortmund are looking to break their record sale for Sancho, meaning they are set to demand more than the €105m they received from Barcelona for Ousmane Dembele in 2017.
