Chelsea midfielder finally puts Liverpool rumours to bed by revealing he ‘wants to stay’ amid ‘exciting’ Boehly project

Chelsea star N’Golo Kante has broken his silence on his future at Stamford Bridge, revealing how he is aiming to stay despite interest from Liverpool.
Kante’s future has been a hot topic over the past six months. His Chelsea contract expires in the summer and so far the West London side have been unable to tie him down to fresh terms.
The midfielder may have had an injury-hit season, managing just nine appearances in all competitions, but he remains very highly thought of across England and further afield. After all, the all-action player has won major trophies such as the World Cup, Champions League and Premier League during a glittering career.
Plus, few players can do what Kante does as a result of his tireless running and defensive awareness.
Paris Saint-Germain are big fans of Kante and were tipped to sign him in late March. 90Min revealed PSG chiefs were in discussions with Kante’s agent over a switch to the French capital.
There have also been surprising links with Chelsea’s English rivals Liverpool. The Reds have supposedly identified Kante as a potential cheap solution to their midfield issues.
On May 5, TEAMtalk revealed how the Frenchman has offers from Saudi Arabian clubs. But all of his potential suitors have now been pushed back.
During an interview with Football Daily, Kante has revealed his desire to stay at Chelsea and play a bigger role in their ‘exciting project’ under Todd Boehly next season.
Chelsea man plays down exit links
“I want to be part of Chelsea future, for sure. It’s an exciting project,” he declared.
“Unfortunately this season was not at Chelsea’s level but we want to go the way of success. Let’s see where I will be, but I hope here.”
Kante has given Chelsea the green light to send him a new contract offer so he can stay put. As long as it meets his demands in terms of money and length, he will sign it and extend his spell with the club.
Kante may now be 32 years old, but he could still play an important role for Chelsea next term. He may form a solid midfield partnership with January signing Enzo Fernandez.
Mateo Kovacic is currently a regular in the Chelsea starting eleven, but that may not be the case for much longer. Football Insider claim Manchester City have turned their ‘full attention’ to signing Kovacic after admitting defeat to Real Madrid in the hunt for Jude Bellingham.
Mauricio Pochettino, who will soon arrive as Chelsea’s new boss, will be delighted if Chelsea manage to tie Kante down to a fresh contract. Although, he looks set for disappointment when it comes to Joao Felix.
Spanish source Cadena Cope report that Felix wishes to remain in the Premier League, though not necessarily with Chelsea. He ideally wants to play in the Champions League with an English team and Manchester United are the best-placed club to complete a deal.
