Report reveals Chelsea were most recent club to ask about Madrid starlet

Chelsea were the most recent team to ask Real Madrid about the chances of signing Vinicius Junior, according to a report.

Vinicius is one of Madrid’s most prized assets, having joined the club as a teenager in 2018. The La Liga giants paid Flamengo €46m for him in the same summer they sold Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, Madrid have had to be patient with Vinicius. He is yet to reach 10 league goals, despite making nearly 50 appearances in the Spanish top flight.

Nonetheless, they still value him highly, so much so that he even has a €700m release clause in his contract.

That has not stopped enquiries coming in from other potential suitors, however. And according to the latest reports, three clubs have been particularly keen.

According to AS, Real Madrid have received enquiries from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain over the past year or so. But the most recent club to ask about Vinicius was Chelsea.

That contact was made back in November, but the Blues have not since followed it up in 2020. They have already signed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax instead.

Likewise, Arsenal chose to pursue another option after making their enquiry back when Unai Emery was in charge. The Gunners chose to bring in Nicolas Pepe for their attack.

While no club has asked about Vinicius since last year, his future still may be away from the Bernabeu. The report adds that Madrid have too many attackers at present, so someone might make way.

Regardless, Vinicius has a contract that still lasts until 2025, so may be in no hurry to leave. He has previously said he is willing to be patient for his long-term chance to shine, after falling down the pecking order when Madrid signed Eden Hazard and Rodrygo last summer.
