Ruslan Malinovskyi has emerged as a transfer target for Chelsea amid his contribution to Atalanta this season, according to reports.
Thomas Tuchel is preparing for his first summer transfer window as Chelsea head coach. He will be keen to strengthen his squad after seeing how much they spent to help Frank Lampard last summer. Now, he wants his own reinforcements as he looks to build on the promise they have shown since his appointment.
It seems one of the main areas they are looking to strengthen is in midfield. They have already been linked with the likes of Barcelona misfit Miralem Pjanic and Tuchel’s ex-PSG colleague Marco Verratti.
But another name to have emerged onto their radar is Malinovskyi.
According to The Sun, citing sources in Belgium and Ukraine, Chelsea are ready to bid for the 28-year-old.
With nine goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season, Malinovskyi has been pivotal to Atalanta’s rise to second in the Serie A table. They have barely missed captain Papu Gomez, who departed in January, with Malinovskyi helping to fill the void.
But the Ukraine international still has an affordable price tag. It is claimed he is valued in the region of £20m.
Hence, Chelsea are ready to test Atalanta’s resolve by making their move for the left-footer, who is out of contract in 2023.
May 17 Transfer Chatter: Man Utd to pay for Varane and Arsenal plan summer clearout
Man Utd will pay the £60m asking price for Raphael Varane and want more defenders, while Arsenal look set to let David Luiz and Willian go in the summer.
The Blues are not his only suitors, as Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen. But Roman Abramovich is reportedly hopeful he can convince him to choose Stamford Bridge as his next home.
Malinovskyi had been linked with Leeds while the summer 2020 transfer window was still open. But his form since then has allowed him to aim higher and Chelsea could now come calling.
Chelsea eye Prem genius
Malinovskyi would be a cheaper alternative to another midfielder to be linked with Chelsea.
It was claimed on Monday that the west London outfit possess an interest in someone they came up against in the FA Cup final at the weekend.
Chelsea lost to Leicester, and one star must have caught their eye.
But this player would come with a heftier price tag than Malinovskyi and they would also face strong competition.
