Chelsea are readying a world-record bid for Juventus defender Alex Sandro, according to a report.
Matt Hughes of The Times claims that the Blues are readying an offer of £61million for the Brazilian, a fee that would see him become the most expensive defender of all time.
This comes after Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy joined Premier League rivals Manchester City for a combined £105m.
Hughes states: “Chelsea are hoping to seal a deal for Alex Sandro, the Juventus left back, after several weeks of pursuit. Juventus have been trying to fend off interest in their Brazil player but Chelsea are prepared to pay £61 million.”
The 26-year-old is reportedly refusing to sign a new deal in Turin, and Antonio Conte has persuaded Roman Abramovich to part with the cash in order to bring in a new defender.
Teammate Marcos Alonso hinted that a new full-back would be joining the club: “This is Chelsea. We play so many games and competition can only be good for me and for the team,” he said according to Calciomercato.com.
Juventus have already lost star man Leonardo Bonucci to Serie A rivals AC Milan and are currently without a back-up left back.
