Chelsea ready to table long-term contract offer to rising star

Fikayo Tomori; Tammy Abraham TEAMtalk

Chelsea are reportedly ready to table a new long-term contract offer for rising defensive star Fikayo Tomori.

The 21-year-old has impressed this season after finally breaking into the club’s first team under Frank Lampard.

Tomori spent last season on loan at Derby under Lampard, playing in every game for the Rams as they reached the Championship play-off final before losing to Aston Villa at Wembley.

Now reunited with Lampard at Stamford Bridge, Tomori is taking his big chance and scored a stunning goal in the impressive win at Wolves last weekend.

And according to The Athletic, the Chelsea hierarchy are ready to reward his progress with a new contract – with a five-year deal in the offing.

After the Blues won at Wolves, Lampard said of the defender: “Delighted for them all but particularly for Fikayo Tomori. He has worked so hard from where he started to now it’s superb.

Speaking after Chelsea’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Valencia in the Champions League this week, club legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was also full of praise for Tomori.

Hasselbaink said: “He did ever so well. He didn’t look out of place, he covered for (Andreas) Christensen and (Marcos) Alonso, was good on the ball.”
