Reports claim Chelsea will refuse to loan out exciting teenage prospect Faustino Anjorin in the winter window, despite plenty of interest in the midfielder.
The 19-year-old has been earning rave reviews for his displays in the Under-23 side. He has yet to make a Premier League appearance in 2020-2021 having played 19 minutes from one outing last term.
However he did start the Blues’ Champions League clash with Russian club Krasnodar in early December.
Boss Frank Lampard gave him a chance as Chelsea had already qualified for the knockout stage. And the young midfielder did not let his manager down, with Lampard picking him out for special praise.
With little chance of breaking into the first team, it was thought he might be sent out on loan. However, The Athletic are reporting that the England Under-19 star will be staying at Stamford Bridge
Several clubs from the Premier League and the Championship have made enquiries but been told to look elsewhere.
Chelsea have made a decent start to the campaign and sit fifth in the table heading into the weekend. They will play Spanish side Atletico Madrid over two legs in the Champions League last-16.
It remains to be seen if Anjorin is involved but he gives Lampard options and can cope with the pressure.
Anjorin to buck the trend
Although the west Londoners are standing firm over Anjorin, they will be looking to lighten the squad this January. It has been suggested that seven players are vulnerable to a winter exit.
It may be a permanent deal or on loan but centre-back Antonio Rudiger’s name has been mentioned. With just one league appearance this season, he appears surplus to requirements.
Others thought to be ready to leave are Andreas Christensen, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and Victor Moses. Finding the right clubs and terms that satisfy all parties concerned will not be easy.
It could be a busy January for Chelsea as they look to trim the squad while also targeting new players. Borussia Dortmund starlet Erling Haaland is said to be on the club’s radar, although competition will be fierce.
He continues to score goals for fun with the Bundesliga club and has been linked to Manchester United, among others. But, according to Sky Italia, Lampard has urged his bosses to make it happen.
