Chelsea reject £17.6m offer for David Luiz from Premier League rivals

Chelsea have rejected a £17.6m bid for David Luiz from one of their Premier League rivals, according to reports.

According to Le10Sport, Arsenal put in a bid for the defender, who fell out of favour at Stamford Bridge last season.

However, Chelsea have turned down the offer for the 31-year-old, who made just 10 appearances in the Premier League in 2017-18.

Luiz’s future at Stamford Bridge is in doubt following his injury-hit campaign, with clubs in Italy and China also linked. Among those, Napoli are reportedly offering him the chance to link up with former manager Carlo Ancelotti again.

Ancelotti was in charge at Chelsea when they signed Luiz in the January transfer window in 2011, but he was sacked at the end of that season, and has not worked with the centre-back since.

However, Luiz could be staying in the Premier League if Arsenal return with a second bid. Unai Emery is keen for defensive reinforcements having already added Stephan Lichtsteiner to his back-line.

Alternatively, the Brazilian could still have a future at Chelsea if Antonio Conte departs as manager.
