Chelsea have lodged a second, improved bid for a Senegalese goalkeeper as they attempt to solve their issues between the sticks, according to reports.

The Blues have been the most active player in the summer transfer window thus far.

Their forward line has been revamped with the additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner – who has already notched in blue. While their defence has also seen significant change with the arrivals of centre-half duo Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva. A £50m deal for ex-Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell was also sealed last week.

Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz appears to be nearing a move to Stamford Bridge, but the final wave of Frank Lampard’s overhaul is expected to come in the goalkeeping position.

Despite his lofty price tag, Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled to adapt to the English game.

Rumours of ambitious swoops for superstar stoppers Jan Oblak and Gianluigi Donnarumma have been touted, but reports from the French press point to a less expensive alternative.

GFFN (citing Goal France) state that Chelsea have launched an improved bid of €20m for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The Senegal international, 28, was previously linked with The Blues following the recommendation of a Chelsea first-team coach.

A lower opening offer was reportedly rejected earlier this week, with Rennes president Nicolas Holveck determined to retain Mendy’s services.

Chelsea hitman subject of former club’s interest

Chelsea have received an enquiry about Tammy Abraham from his former club Aston Villa, according to reports.

Abraham returned to Chelsea last summer after a productive loan spell with Villa. His 25 goals in 37 league games helped Villa gain promotion to the Premier League.

The striker was summoned back to Stamford Bridge for the start of the 2019-20 season. He quickly repaid the faith shown in him by the club whose academy ranks he rose through.

With 18 goals in all competitions last season, Abraham was Chelsea’s top scorer in 2019-20. However, the arrival of Timo Werner has added competition for his place.

Amid those doubts over how much first team action Abraham will get next season, the Daily Mail claim Aston Villa have asked Chelsea if he would be available again.
