Papy Djilobodji: Left out of Chelsea's Champions League squad

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Senegal defender Papy Djilobodji on a four-year deal.

The Premier League champions made their move for the 26-year-old central defender after seeing their overtures for Everton’s John Stones repeatedly rebuffed.

Chelsea have reportedly paid £2.7million for the Senegal international, who has been with Nantes since 2010, making 169 Ligue 1 appearances.

Djilobodji said on “I’m very happy to sign for a big club like Chelsea and I want to do my best to help the team win titles. I want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity.”

It is thought Djilobodji will act as a stop-gap until Chelsea renew their interest in Stones either in January or next summer.

Chelsea have conceded nine goals in four games in accruing four points to sit eight adrift of leaders Manchester City.
