Chelsea are reportedly keen to sign Real Madrid’s Isco this summer in an attempt to add more variety to their midfield ranks.

The Blues’ 10-match unbeaten run under Thomas Tuchel came to a spectacular end on Saturday. They were beaten 5-2 at home by struggling West Brom to dent their chances of finishing in the top four. But it has still been an excellent period of the season for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

A poor run of form in December and January saw the end of Frank Lampard’s reign. And it did not take long for Tuchel to stamp his authority on the team.

However, it is inevitable that he will look to add some of ‘his’ players to the squad in the off-season. Isco is the latest star linked to the west London club, according to Don Balon.

The 28-year-old is enduring a nightmare campaign at the Bernabeu and has been tipped to leave. He has started only six La Liga games among 18 appearances and appears thoroughly unimpressed with life in Madrid.

Reports in February claimed he felt ‘humiliated’ by being continually placed on the bench by coach Zinedine Zidane. The former Malaga star wants to see as much action as possible to aid his fading hopes of playing in Euro 2020.

He was handed a start as Real beat Eibar 2-0 on Saturday to move within three points of table-topping Atletico Madrid. But it may not be enough to persuade the talented schemer to stay in the Spanish capital.

Isco not short of options

Many clubs have been linked with the Benalmadena-born ace. Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton are thought to hold an interest in the player.

Manchester United’s name has also been mentioned in connection with Isco and his future is certainly up in the air. One factor in any potential deal is the fact he will be out of contract in the summer of 2022.

Therefore clubs might keep their powder dry and see what transpires in the next winter window. His value will have decreased significantly by then with just a few months left on his deal.

There is always the possibility of waiting too long and missing out on a player who still has much to offer – given the right circumstances. The report states that Chelsea have already made contact with Isco’s representatives.

They are said to be preparing a £30m bid but it is unclear whether that will be enough.
