Liverpool have been forced to spring into action over a deal for Timo Werner after Chelsea opened talks with the RB Leipzig striker, according to reports.
Werner, whose side are two points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, has been the star goal threat for the club this season having scored 20 goals and assisted six others in 18 league appearances.
Such form has led to the 23-year-old being linked with a move to the Premier League and Werner has admitted that playing in the English top flight is something of a dream.
However, the newspaper adds that Chelsea – with renewed funds following their transfer ban – have already opened talks over a £60m deal to bring Werner to Stamford Bridge.
As such, Liverpool have been forced to play their hand and have reportedly upped their interest as they look to keep up with the Blues in the hunt.
It is also claimed that with Leipzig will do all they can to keep hold of the striker, what with the club having a great chance of winning their first Bundesliga title this term.
Overall, Werner has scored 25 goals and laid on 10 others in 26 outings this season.
Shaqiri, a two-time Champions League winner, has seen his game time be cut short this season due to a combination of injury and his status down the Reds’ pecking order.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio claims that Roma are interested in a loan deal for the Switzerland international featuring an option to buy at the end of the season.
The Daily Mirror, however, states that Klopp wants to keep his whole squad together as they push for Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years.
