Chelsea tipped to fix Tuchel concern with shrewd signing of Tottenham target

Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens Napoli

Chelsea could consider a transfer for Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne as an additional creative solution, according to a report.

The Blues have been strong since Thomas Tuchel took charge, but there are still areas in which they are working to improve. The evolution of their squad is an ongoing process and they will always be alert to potential opportunities in the transfer market.

One could present itself with the possible availability of Italy winger Insigne next year. He is out of contract at the end of the season and Napoli have made little progress over a renewal. Many clubs are monitoring the situation.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea could be among them. The website believes Insigne has the qualities that the Blues are looking for in the market.

Specifically, it is claimed that Tuchel is struggling to find an alternative for Mason Mount, without whom Chelsea have suffered their recent dip with back-to-back 1-0 defeats.

Although Insigne is a different type of player, who usually starts from out wide, it is believed he has similar qualities in terms of exploiting different territories in between the lines.

Therefore, they could either work in the same system or be alternatives for each other depending on the opponent.

The main reason Insigne is struggling to agree a new contract with Napoli is down to finances. Chelsea would be able to accommodate his demands, so would have to convince him about their project.

They have not been afraid to add experienced players on free transfers if they can help. For example, Thiago Silva has made a major impression at the back in his mid-thirties. Insigne is younger at just 30 years of age, but is also in the twilight of his career.

Nonetheless, he remains at the top of his game and the report claims Chelsea do not think he would slow the progress of more youthful options like Mount and Kai Havertz.

Conversely, though, he could take the places of underperforming players like Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. In fact, either or both of them could be sold.

Insigne could take their place, but it seems all these operations are only likely to happen in the summer of 2022 rather than January. Chelsea would rather wait until the Euro 2020 winner is a free agent if they were to try and sign him.

They are not his only admirers, though. Tottenham and Everton have been tipped to battle for his signature.

However, Napoli have officially opened contract talks with him in recent days, it has been revealed. It is not yet clear how quickly they will progress, but it could spell bad news for his admirers if he negotiates a new deal before the new year.

Werner to assess future

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that striker Werner will consider his future unless his situation changes.

Timo Werner throws Chelsea future in doubt

Timo Werner throws Chelsea future in doubt

Timo Werner will reportedly reassess his Chelsea future of his situation doesn't change, with more updates on Antonio Rudiger and Hakim Ziyech.

The former RB Leipzig hitman has not lived up to his price tag at Stamford Bridge. He wasn’t a complete disaster after joining last year, but hasn’t given them what they paid for.

His struggles prompted Chelsea to break their transfer record to re-sign Romelu Lukaku as a more reliable option up front.

Werner remains the main backup centre-forward and can also play alongside Lukaku. However, his gametime has not been of the extent he would desire so far.

Tuchel has only handed him two Premier League starts so far this season. With that in mind, The Telegraph believe he will reconsider his future in January unless he gets more gametime.

It is not yet clear who may want to offer him a solution.
