Chelsea transfer collapses, with midfielder re-routed after Liverpool, Caicedo hijack sparks incredible new outcome

Chelsea, Liverpool, Brighton, Moises Caicedo, Tyler Adams

An already agreed Chelsea transfer has collapsed at the eleventh hour, and a remarkable report claims Brighton could snatch Leeds United ace Tyler Adams if Moises Caicedo to Liverpool is hijacked.

Adams, 24, has already passed the first part of his medical ahead of joining Chelsea. The American is the subject of a £20m bid that Leeds could not turn down thanks to a relegation clause in his contract.

Personal terms are already in place and by all accounts, the move was on the cusp of completion.

However, the dramatic saga regarding the future of Moises Caicedo has played havoc with Adams’ proposed move to Chelsea.

Indeed, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Adams will no longer be joining Chelsea after talks broke down.

The reporter tweeted: “Sky Sports News understands talks have broken down over Tyler Adams’ proposed move from Leeds to Chelsea after the parties were unable to reach an agreement.

“Chelsea had triggered the £20m release clause. Adams now expected to return to Leeds.”

In an even more stunning twist, the possibility Brighton could now swoop for Adams is gathering pace.

That’s according to SportsLens who relay the possibility Brighton could pick up where Chelsea left off for Adams. Doing so would see Roberto De Zerbi sign a direct replacement for Caicedo.

Liverpool the odd club out?

The Ecuador international had looked on course for Liverpool after the Reds outbid Chelsea during the night.

Liverpool’s £110m bid blew Chelsea’s £100m effort out of the water. In an effort to wrap up a deal before the season begins, Brighton accepted Liverpool’s bid and the Reds hastily scheduled a medical.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that development during his press conference on Friday morning. However, the story was by no means over.

Fabrizio Romano exclusively revealed Caicedo intends to reject Liverpool in favour of joining Chelsea. The Blues were the first club to come in for Caicedo this summer and their interest dates all the way back to the January window.

Caicedo agreed personal terms with Chelsea back in May and per Romano, the midfielder wishes to stick to his word and join Chelsea.

The Guardian claimed Mauricio Pochettino’s side intend to lodge an even higher bid than Liverpool’s £110m offer. Whether Brighton will re-open negotiations remains to be seen having already accepted Liverpool’s bid.

In any case, if Brighton do pull the rug from under Liverpool and turn to Chelsea, the possibility of Adams winding up at the AMEX is now in play.

In that scenario, Brighton would simply have to active the same £20m release clause Chelsea did. Of course, they’d also have to agree personal terms with the player.
