Chelsea planning huge offer for Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, claims reputable source

Erling Haaland Norway June 2021 TEAMtalk

Chelsea are preparing a “big offer” to test the resolve of Borussia Dortmund over Erling Haaland’s future, claims a source.

The Norway striker is one of the hottest properties in European football and looked likely to move on earlier this summer.

Dortmund though put their foot down in May with BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke insisting the striker was staying.

When SportBild via Sport Witness asked how many clubs can afford the Norwegian, Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “Your assumption is fundamentally wrong: Because there are no conditions from us.

“I have the clear expectation Erling Haaland will still play for us next season. And I don’t worry about anything else.”

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea were the three main suitors from England for the 20-year-old. However, United have since agreed a deal for Haaland’s team-mate Jadon Sancho.

While City boss Pep Guardiola has thrown fresh doubt over his side’s chances of paying big for a striker.

That has left Chelsea as leading protagonists and, last week according to 90min, the Blues were preparing a £150million bid.

Now, respected German football expert and Norwegian Jan Age Fjortoft, has tweeted that Dortmund could accept around €175million to let their star player go this summer.

Fjortoft said: “I understand Chelsea are preparing a big offer to check out and challenge Dortmund’s he will stay here next season.”

The former Middlesbrough striker suggests that Dortmund will find it hard to turn down such money for the former Red Bull Salzburg star. Especially when a clause in the player’s contract will allow him to leave for €75million (£64million) next summer.

Chelsea ‘in a hurry’

As for Haaland’s stance, he has previously revealed that he intends to honour his Dortmund contract.

The player though, who was born in Leeds, is thought to be open to living in the UK should he be sold by Dortmund.

Chelsea have held extensive talks with Haaland’s representatives, including agent Mino Raiola earlier in the summer.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel though is keen to get a deal hammered out quickly so that he can get his squad together fort pre-season.

BILD has claimed Tuchel is ‘in a hurry’ to get the signing wrapped up and wants it done ‘immediately’.

With that in mind Fjortoft’s latest comments seem to fit into a timeline that could see a mammoth bid imminently.
