Chelsea turn down potential £70m offer for key Lampard squad man

Frank Lampard Chelsea

Chelsea have reportedly turned down an offer from Bayern Munich for Callum Hudson-Odoi, which could have seen them earn around £70million.

Bayern want Hudson-Odoi to join them on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy for £70m next summer.

But the Blues have turned down the proposal, leaving the reigning European champions little time to come back with a counter offer.

However, the report in The Guardian claims that Chelsea could still agree to the move if Bayern return with an obligation to make the deal permanent next summer.

Frank Lampard insisted that he wanted to keep the England winger after his side’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

However, Bayern have long held an interest in the 19-year-old and were close to landing him before he signed a new five-year deal last September.

The Bundesliga giants want to add Hudson-Odoi to their already impressive winger ranks. They already have Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman on their books. Bayern also landed Leroy Sane from Man City over the summer.

Hudson-Odoi has struggled to regain top form since suffering an Achilles injury in April 2019. There are strong rumours that he is looking for a move to earn more game time.

He has not been a regular since Lampard’s arrival at the start of last season and is competing for a starting place with Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Hudson-Odoi desperate to make Euros

The young attacker is desperate to earn a place in the England squad for next summer’s Euros but knows he must be playing.

On the surface it would appear he has more chance of getting minutes under his belt in England rather than Germany, given Bayern’s attacking depth.

However, he has seen fellow England winger Jadon Sancho shine at Dortmund and may want the same opportunity in a different environment.

Chelsea and Bayern have until 11pm on Monday night to negotiate any potential switch, if the former decide to let their man go.
